Body Work and Massage

At Men's Resource  Center we offer three types of bodywork to meet the needs of men who are healing on many different levels. Bodywork is beneficial not just physically, but also emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. The physical body stores the memory of past trauma, and holds the patterns of thoughts and behaviors that have become unconscious and automatic. Bodywork helps loosen the grip that these patterns have on the body, freeing up emotions, mind, and spirit.

Relaxation massage

Men are often heavily armored against feeling their emotions, and this armoring shows up as stress and physical tension, and affects relationships, health, job performance, and every other aspect of men’s lives. Relaxation massage re-educates the body-mind to remember how to live in a state of balance and ease.

Therapeutic massage

Many physical complaints, such as back and neck pain, migraines, work and sports injuries, and gastrointestinal problems, are a direct result of the armoring that men carry. Therapeutic massage uses several different treatment modalities, including deep tissue, acupressure, CranioSacral Therapy, and myofascial release, to address injuries and body armoring on a physical level.

Transformational Bodywork

Requiring more active participation, Transformational Bodywork is a seated (and sometimes standing or moving) process which facilitates emotional healing through dialogue, movement, touch, and body awareness. It teaches men to understand the language of the body, which is crucial for emotional healing, and offers powerful tools for breaking out of unhealthy patterns such as addiction, rage, or depression. Many men do this work in conjunction with groups or individual counseling.
